This 7.5x5.5 inches journal has covers made of Inamalong fabric hand-woven by the Iranun. The Iranun, “people of the lake”, are among the 11 ethnic Muslim groups in the Philippines. Inamalong is an iteration of traditional Inaul malong or tube-skirt fabric worn in many parts of Mindanao. This particular fabric was handmade by the Iranun Weaving Center, which is fully operated by Iranun weavers and is the only 100% cotton Inaul and Inamalong Weaving Center in the world. To create this one-of-a-kind design, the weavers used a single complementary weft weaving technique on a bi-pedal loom.
This journal has 336 pages (counting both sides) blank, ivory-coloured sheets made of pure ECF (elemental chlorine free) ecological pulp, 85 gsm, acid-free paper from Italy.
We used four needles and waxed cords to create compact chain stitches that tightly connect the pages onto the spine. This binding technique is known as Coptic binding, an ancient way of binding books used by early Christians in Egypt and dates back to as early as 2nd century AD to the 11th century. We also added some hand-woven details on the spine.
Coptic-bound journals are perfect for diary writing, art journaling, sketchbook and scrapbooking as it allows the journal to be laid flat and opened up to 360 degrees.
Rebinding: We offer rebinding of new blank pages once you've filled up your journal. Email us for additional info - alunsinahandboundbooks@gmail.com
